Loon Lake is a truly amazing location for a vacation any time of year. Loon Lake is one of only a few private lakes in the Adirondacks, which means there is very little motor boat activity. The lake is approx 2 ½ miles long with many coves to explore; best experienced on a canoe or kayak.  All of our rentals include boats for your use. Feel free to bring your own personal watercrafts, but we do not allow outside motorboats. There are no exceptions.

The water is crystal clear and refreshing, making swimming fantastic. There are many places nearby for hiking.  One of our favorites is Crusher Mountain. To get to the top, is only about a thirty to forty minute fairly easy hike. If you are more adventurous, the Loon Lake Mountain trailhead is about 1 ½ miles from the north end of the lake. A 6 mile round trip with the summit featuring amazing views and a fire tower. However, the fire tower cannot be climbed.

Fishing on the lake is awesome. I have personally caught numerous bass in the 4-5 pound range; mostly smallmouth, but also a few large mouth. There are also large Northern Pike, as well as,  what seems like an unlimited number of perch. Best eating of all!

There are views of Whiteface mountain from many spots on and around the lake along with many other mountains. Loon Lake is steeped in rich history, the Loon Lake House was a 31 room hotel that burned down in 1956 but many of the other original historical structures remain intact. Unfortunately, the Loon Lake Golf course closed down in 2006, but you can take a stroll on it and enjoy some fantastic views.

When in Loon Lake, we rarely leave because there is so much to do outside the doors of the camps, but when we do want to take a trip to town, Saranac Lake is a short 30 minute drive and then it’s another 10-15 minutes to either Lake Placid or Tupper Lake where you will find many great shops and restaurants. Tupper Lake is home to the Wild Center, an immersive Natural History Center, fun for the entire family. In the winter, Saranac Lake has Winter Carnival which has a lot of fun activities for the entire family.

Looking for some good snowmobile trails? Look no further, the groomed main corridor C8 trail runs right by the lake. Take off right from one of our year round rentals. Most of our rentals are pet friendly! Bring your dogs, they’re going to love the lake too! You can snowshoe and cross country ski right from the front doors, and it’s a short drive to Titus Ski Mountain or Whiteface.

Summer cannot be beat but Spring and Fall are also great times to visit Loon Lake. There are so many awesome things to do in Loon Lake, and I know you will have an excellent family vacation. Each camp at the website has links to availability calendars, rates and contact info. Thanks for reading and considering one of our camps!
