Like the eastern side of town, Malone’s western end offers good field birding, and birders will do well to drive along Fay County Road (County Route 8) and zigzag north-south along roads such as Harvey, Garvin, Brockway, Depot, and Wheeler between Fay County Road and Route 11.

Breeding birds include Bobolink, Eastern Meadowlark, and Savannah Sparrow in the fields, and Chestnut-sided Warbler and Indigo Bunting in the hedgerows and forest edges. Wintering species may include Snow Bunting, Lapland Longspur, Horned Lark, and Rough-legged Hawk, while Northern Harriers pass through during migration.
